Some devices might not be able to replace Microsoft Edge legacy with the chromium version of the same browser. This occurs with the device with custom ISO image or offline media. The problem only occurs when the media or image are created by slipstreaming this patch into the image without having first installed SSU dated at least 29/03/2021. Remember that if you have straight away installed updates there wouldn’t be any issues. Windows Update for Business is an example. So it is suggested to always install the most recent versions of the SSU and LCU) without any extra steps. |
Trying to avoid this? First of all, slipstream the Servicing Stack Update dated 29/03/2021 or later into the ISO image or custom offline media prior to slipstreaming the LCU. To do the same with the combined LCU and SSU packages now used for Windows 10 v20H2 and v2004, you will have to unpack the SSU from the combined package. Move ahead with the steps to extract the Servicing Stack Update –
Unpack the cab from the msu through this command line (using the package for KB5000842 as an example): expand Windows10.0-KB5018410-x64.msu /f:Windows10.0-KB5018410-x64.cab <destination path> Extract the Servicing Stack Update from the previously unpacked cab using this command line: expand Windows10.0-KB5018410-x64.cab /f:* <destination path> Now you will have the SSU cab, in this example named SSU-19042.2130-x64.cab. Slipstream this file into your offline image first, then the Latest Cumulative Update. In case you have already confronted this problem, mitigate it by straightway installing the Chromium version Microsoft Edge. Suppose you need to broadly deploy the Microsoft Edge for business, navigate to Download and deploy Microsoft Edge for business. |
Once you received this patch, file copies using Group Policy Preferences might not be successful, or create empty shortcuts or files using 0 bytes.
Known affected Group Policy Objects are associated with shortcuts and files in User Configuration => Preferences => Windows Settings in Group Policy Editor. |
In order to mitigate this problem, follow either of the underneath methods –
Clear off the check mark for the Run in logged-on user’s security context (user policy option). Important: This method might not mitigate the problem for items using a wildcard (*). Alternatively, under the affected Group Policy, change Action from Replace to Update. Suppose a wildcard (*) is used in the destination or location, removing the trailing \ from the destination might allow the copy to be successful. The experts are working on a resolution and will send an update in an upcoming release. |
