Security updates are rolling out today January 9, 2024, Patch Tuesday to different operating Systems including Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2. KB5034123 is the release that increases the versions to Windows 11 build 22621.3007 and 22631.3007 respectively. This patch carries bug fixes for devices shutting down after 60 seconds, smart card not appearing, and Wifi adapters not connecting to some networks.

Full name of the release is “2024-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034123)” where x64 is variable and it can also be ARM64 depending on the CPU architecture.   • This update addresses an issue that causes your device to shut down after 60 seconds. This occurs when you use a smart card to authenticate on a remote system.
  • This update addresses an issue that affects the display of a smart card icon. The icon does not appear when you sign in. This occurs when there are multiple certificates on the smart card.
  • This update addresses a known issue that might affect some Wi-Fi adapters. They might not connect to some networks. This might occur?after you installĀ KB5032288 or KB5033375. This issue is more likely to occur if the Wi-Fi networks use 802.1x to authenticate. It is not likely that home networks will have this issue.

How to download KB5034123 and install

Since Servicing Stack update 22631.2567 or 22621.2567 is already included in the Windows update follow the methods directly to install the patch:

1] Through automatic Windows update

  1. Press “Winkey + I”.
  2. Select Windows update and click on “Check for updates”.
  3. The patch’s download will start and take some time depending on the internet speed. Stay until then and when completed, click on Restart now.

2] Using Standalone Package

  1. Navigate to the Microsoft update catalog and find the file compatible with your PC.
  2. Once found, click on Download.
  3. When a page prompts, select the link located there.
  4. After downloading, double-click on the .msu file and confirm the prompt.
  5. After a couple of reboots, the update will be automatically installed.
